PROFIBUS DP [FONT=&quot](Decentralized Peripherals)[/FONT]

  • Mainly used for remote I/O, drives, sensors, actuators, communication,…
  • Electrical: RS485 (or fiber)
  • Transmission speed: 9.6kbps …. 12 Mbps
  • Cable length: 100 … 1200 meter, depending on transmission speed
  • No or very limited spur lines allowed

PROFIBUS PA [FONT=&quot](Process Automation) [/FONT]

  • Mainly used for process automation (instrument networks)
  • Electrical: MBP (signal and power on the same wire)
  • Transmission speed: 31.25 kbit/s.
  • Protocol: same as PROFIBUS DP, but you can use “profile GSD “files to make it manufacturer
  • Independent (with some limitations).
  • Cable length: 0…1900 meter, depending on used cable, current consumption, length of spur lines, EX zone, available power, ….
