Factorytalk view Studio Alarm screens

Hey all. I work at a new power plant and are trying to work out the kinks and bugs in all our plcs and hmi's. On our water treatment HMI (Factorytalk SE), we have no alarm screens at all. we have an idea of what alarms we want. the tags are already made in the controllogix project. Tank levels, low flows, stuff like that. Im not sure exactly where to start on this. Alarm screen, importing the tags, acknowledge buttons. I have looked online for tutorials, videos, anything to get me started. I do have l limited rsview studio experience. Adding buttons, numeric displays ect... and directing them to tags in a controller. Any help leading me the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

First you need to determine what alarm system you want to use (and what system your hardware/firmware supports). FTAlarmsAndEvents or the default tag based alarming are your options.

FTView is the same as most HMI packages out there, just buggier. If you can use the nicer (but buggy) FTA&E alarms, that is very easy. Just drop the pre-made alarm object onto a display screen, and you are done. All alarms are actually configured in the PLC. New ones can be added at any time, with no HMI programming.

The older version is also just drop a pre-made alarm display on a window, but there you must configure the tags as alarms in the Tag Editor.

As far as buttons and numeric displays, the online help should be more then sufficient to get you there.

Hey thanks a lot. I will definatly give this a try. I noticed in the HMI tags that there is a check box for alarms beside the tag and description. Will simply checking the tags as alarms bring it up in the alarm screen if it goes true?
