how to use encoder with s7 300

Dear siemens gurus,
I have to run a Pittmangearmotor GM series with S7 318 PLC I never did it and don't know how to start.
Thanks in advance to guide me.

thanks but the motor i am using is a DC motor with encoder is there any other way to run the motor and check its position on the plc
