For what it's worth, the Parrot ARDrone quadcopter is actually available now. It is controlled via iPhone or iPod touch, and is pretty reasonably priced.

Yes, the math gets intense and it must be done real time. I have seen that before. There are many differ types of rotor video on YouTube.
