Old question perhaps? Will a USB to an RS232 adapter work for going online with tis controller. I currently have a 1761-cbl-pm02 serial to controller cable and hate to pay A/B their asking price for a cable I'll likely only use once.

If the controller is using DF1 protocol, a general-purpose RS232/USB adapter should work. The device I recommend to everyone is the Keyspan HS-19.

If the controller is using DH485 protocol, the only device you can use to connect to it via USB is the 1747-UIC from Allen-Bradley.
