The situation ...
There's an existing stand-alone SLC-5/03 system that I need to "network" to from an HMI (wonderware). It's too remote to go straight DH-485 (or serially, heaven forbid!) A new fiber drop is to be installed in close proximity to the 5/03.

The question ...
Is it possible and/or are there any success stories out there of converting the DH-485 to fiber and back again to get the distance?

Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at the option of using the SLC's channel zero (RS-232) port with a 1769-NET-ENI to convert to Ethernet? This would give you all of the options of Ethernet, (fiber, etc.)
