We are looking at an application with 10x VSD's, that have Modbus RTU by default. We can also easily add an E/IP card to the VSD.

At this stage we are angling towards a ML1400 & Modbus Serial, but I was just reading a thread abuot the L23E. What would be the option that others would look at for this type of application? The ML & Serial option is far cheaper, but E/IP is so much easier to configure, maintain & support going forward.

I'm assuming the L23E can have E/IP devices as IO etc?

Hi,

You will not have the best update times with Modbus. My rule of thumb is to have max 8 slaves on a Modbus RTU network at 19600Bits/s using a few coomand/slave. So, if you have any concerns about update times, I suggest to go with EtherNet/IP.

Just my 2 cents
