Not really PLC related.\

I have an german press that we just received.
On the Air clutch, the Valve has two solenoids.
any Idea what this is for?

Maybe

This could be a double acting sol valve. This is usually where there is not a NO or NC position, but you have to shift the spool in the two directions by energizing the coil for that position. Then again, if I could read German, the lable might tell just what the heck the thing is. :D
p.s. George, I looked a second time at your pics and I do not see a spring mechanism for shifting the spool when the coil de-energizes, so I may be on to something here with the double coils.

Have worked with lots of German Press equipment, and normally a Dual Solenoid valve is used as a safety valve. Both spools need to move simultaneously. If there is a slight delay between them (ie one starts to stick), then a microswitch is activated (pneumatically within the valve), which in turn should 'Lock' the valve out and flag up an alarm. The valve should not be able to re-energise until the switch has been reset.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Kid. I think that you are right on.
This press must have been in some sort of test lab??
All of the contactors for the motors were in another room.
lots of wiring!!!
