I am looking for general info on Wireless I/O. I have been unable to find any decent websites that give a general over view of the Pros/Cons. Does anyone know of a good place for me to find this information?

Thanks,

You need to explain your needs and hardware better.
Banners "SureCross" wireless IO System works great, and can gateway interface to most PLC's.

ProSoft has a lot of industrial level wireless solutions, as well as some specialized for EtherNet/IP, including some in-rack modules.

B&B Electronics also has a wide range of wireless I/O and other connectivity products.

Those are the one's I've used. For additional resources there is always this little known place.

I have used the Phoenix Contact Wireless I/O system and it has worked well for a number of years. The hardware was somewhate pricy but less expensive the running conduit.

Pros: Wireless
Cons: More affected by noise, Line of sight, lower bandwidth, another couple of items in a system (4* the chance of something going wrong)

Cons: Line of sight,
Frequency hoppers in the 900MHz band do not have a strict visual line of sight requirement. The signal bounces off steel quite.

I am aware of numerous I/O points where the signal shoots through concrete or block walls, bounces off steel superstructure or tanks and arrives at the receiver.

Wi-Fi or Direct Sequencing technology in the 2.4GHz band, on the other hand, are much more subject to visual line-of-sight and noise than the 900MHz freq hoppers.

Phoenix Contact has a pretty good white paper on Wireless technologies and options.

At the bottom in the downloads section click on the
Find Out More Link.

The Industrial Wireless Technology white paper is a pretty good starting place without a lot of sales fluff. There are also many other documents there on applications and products.

You will have to provide a name, company name and zip code and they will send you a link to download the
