Siemens Communication

Hi guys!

First, sorry about my English and thank you for your attention.

I`m trying to connect a SIMATIC FIELD PG M3 to a CPU 414-3 PN/DP for the first time, and in fact, i never did that before, not with Siemens or any other manufacturer (Fresh from College xD).

I tried to use NCM S7 Diagnostics to set IP and apparently it worked. The FLASH button also worked.

But now i`m kind lost. In CONNECTIONS (SIMATIC Manager) i add a PG/PC Station, in Properties i chose the interface (ETHERNET where my cable is connected) and configured the IP. In Assignment i assigned the correct interface (i think =P).

With that i was able to download my program, but i don`t know how to check if everything is working. In ONLINE mode i got a red down arrow on CPU and a red cross on Profibus module (CP 443-5 Ext).

Could someone indicate me a manual or a guide where i can find an step-by-step on how should i do the first connection with my hardware?

Are you trying to program the PLC with STEP7 ?
Or are you setting up connections for other reasons ?
What version of STEP7 do you have ?

Yes, i`m trying to program the PLC. i already have the program, now i need to download it and test. I`m using STEP 7 v 5.5.

I need to check the communication between PG, PLC and modules. I don`t know exactily what i should set in CONNECTIONS and HW Config.

Dont touch the "connections".
All you have to do is to set S7ONLINE=TCP/IP(name of adapter) in the "Set PG/PC" dialog.
If the IP address has not yet been set on the CPU, you can start a download of the HW Config from the HW Configuration. When the dialog pops up, you can use the MAC address (printed on the CPU), or use the "view" button to seach for the CPU. When the CPU is found, select it and download.
From then on, you can program the CPU via ethernet.
That is all.

You need to build the hardware config exactly as what you got connected to the plc with the correct part #
Then you separately download this config to the plc
And after you can work your logic and download it
You should be able to go online...if your logic is without error and you have done it correctly

I'm curious about how you got that expensive PLC with an up to date soft without support from Siemens ?
