Accessing AIC+

We have several AIC+ connecting micro1000's to ab hmi's. The hmi's are dh485, when we try to connect thru the AIC we loose connection with the hmi but conection with processor is fine. We're using rs232 dh-1 driver because cable fits. My question is do we need to use dh485 cable to see hmi too, and if we do will a gender changer work on the cable or not because my dh485 is male db9 the same as the AIC.
 
You need to use the DH485 driver to see both devices. If you have a real serial port then use the 1747-PIC/AIC+ driver.

The reason you see the ML1000 with the DF1 driver is because it has a feature called "Automatic Protocol Switching. See PDF below.
