Ok! working with a AB SLC 500 (24vdc power supply, 5vdc in/out put cards) had gotten a blinking fault @ processor, reboot it no good, went to hook up my laptop killed power supply(s) yes tried 3 drained them dead! still have fault any suggestions!

Yikes, first off, inspect all the cards and backplane, and fuse that power supply!

Is this a modular system? Can you get us some part numbers or zip and attach a copy of the program running in it?

If it has slide in cards, remove the terminal blocks and unlatch all the cards, and slide them out with the power removed.

Then power up the power supply, chassis, and only the SLC CPU in slot zero and see if the power supply holds up.

What is the part number of the SLC CPU? I've seen bad things happen when a DH485 port is mistaken for an Ethernet port.

Definitely!

We had guys here plug that #$@% DH485 plug on the UIC right into a NET-ENI and then use it later on a SLC. Most of the time it just screws up the UIC. We've got lucky, I wish they would tag that DH-485 RJ plug with a not ethernet tag in BOLD RED LETTERS.👨🏻‍🏫

I'll hush know.o_O

Since the connector has been used in telephone(original use), AB's DH-485, Ethernet, various RS485 networks and who knows what else maybe it should be labeled for what it IS (only one item) as opposed to what it is NOT. If the manufacturer of the item doesn't provide a warning label maybe the end user, in self-protection, should.

Do you mean a 1747-L524? SLC5/02?

It only has a DH485 port. You will need a 1747-PIC ( if you have a real serial port)

Or a 1747-UIC ( USB to DH485 converter) to connect your laptop to it.

Best bet is the 1747-UIC.

The DH485 port on the SLC5/02 has 24vdc on one of it's pins. If you plugged that into an Ethernet port then I'm sorry.
