Can't go online with earlier ver. RSlogix5000

I am currently using RSLogix 5000 Ver. 18.00. I am having trouble going online with the processor to work on a program written version 17.01.

My drivers were set properly and I could see the processor, but then I would lose communication with it.

The manufacturer of the machinery told me that I would need ver. 17.01 to work on the project which does not make sense to me since I have a more updated version.

Questions: How do I get around this and if not, where can I get a version of 17.01 without buying it?
 
The install disk which has version 18 on it should also have most of the earlier versions. Thy can be installed along with 18. Then, when going online, RSLogix5000 will automatically determine the version to use.

RSlogix5000/ControlLogix is different than earlier PLCs and their Editing Programs. The Firmware Version, and RSLogix Version must match.

Version 17 of RSLogix5000 should be on your RSLogix5000 Install CD/DVD. You will need to install it to work with a V17 PLC.

no argument there ... you'll get used to things like that ... a sort of "numbness" sets in eventually ...

PS Edit ... when we say "must match" we mean that the major part of the revision number must match (example V17) - but thankfully you don't have to worry about the minor revision number (example .01) ...
