How to?

Hi, I work for an engineering company and we had to scrap an old press (year 98 I think). I don't know eletronics, but know logic and programming. there is my problem, I found the hardware below and want to program it for a dummy system. I want to make the plc send signals to leds and receive from buttons (I think it is very basic)

QUESTION: What do I need to program the PLC? I only have a laptop with windows vista home premium...

HARDWARE:

SIEMENS
01 - SIMATIC S7 TS ADAPTER
01 - SIMATIC OP17 PANEL
02 - ET 200L
01 - SIMATIC S7-300 WITH 64K FLASH
02 - SM321 DI 16XDC24V
01 - SM322 DO 16XDC24V/0.5A

Any help is very welcome.

The reference I gave is an USB cable. The RS232 also works, as long as it is the correct one. What is the reference?

The software is around 1500 Euros, at least here in portugal.

Since you listed ET 200L, I presume you've got Profibus. Communications are not supported in S7Lite.

I have used IBH for S5 (and liked it), but never S7. And MHJ demo version only. (My employers have allways provided Siemens' S7pro).

moggie - don't know, it was a press for some kind of bonding process, the plc was controlling lift, conveiors, heaters, pumps and the press itself. It was a german system
 
KalleOlsen - for sure it is Profibus, I have one good cable was linking the op panel to the plc and a few more cables with only one end on it. I downloaded the winplc7 demo, do you know where I can get some basic tutorials? I want to link a button and a LED, or maybe something else just to get started

it's raining for sure... as always a bad weather on weekends... :)
