I need to know if it is possible to convert a PV1000 (2711-K10C1) RIO, to a 2711-K10C8 (DH+) just by changing the communications board.

I don't think so. The PanelView Standard terminals were never made to be modular, and I think if you try to load K10C8 firmware into a terminal that was manufactured as a K10C1, the terminal will not permit it.
It could probably be done at the factory, but not in the field with any of the available firmware loading tools.
