I am not having any luck getting my CompactLogix L32E to talk to my PVPlus 600 and am beginning to suspicion that unupdated software is to blame. I have version 5 of factory Talk ME. When I try and configure the shortcut to my processor, it only gives me a L32E bridge as a choice and on properties it ask for the IP and slot number. Then when I add the processor, it asks for the slot number. So the only configuration it will let me choose is as if I have an ethernet card and processor in seperate slots. The ethernet is built into the processor, which resides in slot 0. It will not let me give the ethernet bridge and processors the same slot number. Is there a way around this or am I the victim of outdated softwware?

I think you need to right click on the bridge and add device than select your plc

CompactLogix uses a "virtual backplane" in which the CPU is in Slot 0 and the EtherNet/IP daughtercard is in Slot 1.

If you actually browse a CompactLogix, the Slot number of the EtherNet/IP daughtercard and the CPU gets filled in automatically. When you're inserting the devices offline, you have to fill it in yourself.

In RSLogix 5000, when you right-click and select Properties for the CPU, the EtherNet/IP daughtercard, and the CompactBus Local scanner, you will see them hard-coded for Slots 0, 1, and 3 respectively.

Thanks BCE and Ken for your help. Ken, it appears that you understand my poor description of the problem. I will make the appropriate changes when I return to work. I'll let you know how things turn out. I kept having the feeling that I either couldn't get there from here or that I was just one setting away from making them talk.

FWIW, I can "see" both the PV+600 and the CLX on RSLinx Lite. It's like the computer sees both devices on the network, but they don't see each other.

Remember that every RSLinx Enterprise Shortcut has two definitions; the one on the "Development" tab and the one on the "Runtime" tab.

For an Ethernet system they are virtually always identical. Use the "Copy" button to copy your schema from the Development tab to the Runtime tab.
