We have a pc based HMI on a machine that the hard drive
is craping out. The pc has win 3.11 but not using it
for normal operations. How can I make an exact copy of
the drive, so it can be replaced? Is the command XCOPY?
Or can it be done in windows (dos based, so maybe it's
trustworthy).

You can get a copy of Norton Ghost which will make an image of the hard drive. It can adjust for a larger size drive.

With win 3.11 XCOPY may work, but I am a little rusty.

YEP---ghost is best! It works great! On the other hand I have had trouble with XCOPY---it totally hosed up a harddrive we were having trouble with!

Good Luck! :)
