I am a 60 year old EC. I have done some AB 1000 programming now I have an AB 1500 which I want to talk to a PA System that accepts this in ASCII format via RS232 which I know nothing about. All I want is to assign inputs and or outputs via the RS232 a priority and to sound a tone 3 or 6 times.

Can anyone help an old man?

I would strongly recommend to test connection and port settings
using PC. See if the manual for the drive has cable pinout, if not
just try standard RS232 cables - either straight or crossover ("null modem").
Next step is to open Hyperterminal, and specify port settings
(something like 9600bps, 8bit, no handshaking, 1 stop bit) which
are used by your PA system.
You should see prompt or some sort of welcome message from the PA
when unit is powered up etc.
After playing with connection and once you know what to send
and what to expect back, setup chanel_0 and read about ACL, AWA and
AWT instructions.
You can search this forum for more infor using keywords such
as hypererminal, RS232 etc. or just ask when you have specific question.

Regards,
