Can a sensor be remotely connected to a plc - using wireless sensor

Pls I am a little bit new to PLC. I am to use PLC for remote monitoring and control.

I will like to know if a wireless sensor can be used on a PLC. That is if a sensor can be connected to PLC via wireless link and if PLC can activate a remote actuator.
