Well Good Sunday mourning to you all.. To start out my laboratory is getting a bit out of control lol ... My Setup consists of

SLC 5/04 rack A @ node 1
Master rack ( So far )
and is method of comms to DeviceNet Network
slc 5/04 rack B @ node 2
plc5 5/40E with Ethernet rack c @ node 4

rack A
1747-SDN/B REV. 6.002

rack B
1747-SDN/B REV. 2.001
( I know the revision on this one will give me some problems )

rack c 1771-SDN/B REV. 4.006
( also know now from reading posts that for what I want to accomplish this scanre would need to be a 1771 sdn/ [C] becuase [B's] can only be masters )

RIO
3 1794 ADN

RIO rack one
1 adn 2 OB16A/P
configured as 6 input bytes and 4 output bytes

RIO rack two
1 adn 2 IB16
configured as 6 input bytes and 4 output bytes

RIO rack three ( problem rack )
1 adn 4 IB16 2 OB16A/P
I have tried many different configurations to no avail

Rslinx
2.57.00.14

RsNetWorx
10.01.00

Please forgive me if there are some questions that have been answered on here allready.. I have searched but wayy to many topics to sort thru..

OK first off I have worked on enough DeviceNet to know enough to be dangerous lol.. But have never really setup and commission many. Most were very simple setups. So I am not new to the world of this sort of communications..

First Question
HOW many BYTES should each module take up?
I have looked and looked but cant find a definite answer.

Second question and I know it maybe possible but am not going to cry a river over it. The scanner in rack B.. Is rev 2 I wont let me send any form of a change to it from rack A ( Master and method of comm's to Network ) in RsNetWorx.
every time I try Communication

error: 12 : Error response received: Resource unavailable

could this be that Pass thru communications is the problem??

So thank you ALL in advance again and there probally will be more to come for Questions

Matt

I would decommission the 1747-SDN with firmware 2.x and get it upgraded. You're definitely not going to be able to do anything useful with it over a 1747-SDNPT connection.

IIRC, this is a multi-step process, first using an old DOS-based flash utility, then using ControlFlash. You'll need a 1770-KFD or a 1784-PCD and the firmware tools. If you have a good relationship with your local RA office, or if your distributor specialist is skilled with DeviceNet, do it through them. There are other folks here on the Forum (including me) who could also dig out these tools.

The I/O Connection Size of a 1794-ADN can be tricky to determine, since each module is configurable, plus there's some diagnostic data from the Adapter itself.

In addition, it's easy to get into a "catch-22" situation with a 1794-ADN; once you have a scanner attempting to create a Scanlist connection, the -ADN will consider its I/O connection to be in the Established state, even if there's a size mismatch error. The 1794-ADN will then refuse to accept any configuration changes, since you can't reconfigure an Established connection.

The way out of this is to delete the Scanlist entry, cycle power to both the scanner and adapter, then reconfigure.

The 1794-ADN also has a 'reset to factory defaults' function that you might need to clear out its memory of what was connected and configured.

Thank you Ken

for your quick and insightful response..

this is a word doc of what I have tried so far. But am still having a problem getting the ADN to work properly..

Thanks Again
Matt

If someone could point out to me just how many input / output bytes each IB16 and each OB16 module (should) have by default could relly help me narrow this down
Thanks
Matt
