I currently got a new laptop with Win7 64 bit. I installed all my Rockwell software in XP Mode and everything except for FT View Studio is fine. It installed fine but sometimes when I open up a project, it doesn't load. All the graphic displays are gone and I get messages that it failed to load Data Server. Has anyone else experienced this?

I am using version 6 of FT View. FYI.

Thanks in advance.

Do yourself a favour and instead of using Win7's built in "XP Mode", use the free VMWare Player software (I personally use the paid version VMWare Workstation which has some extra features) and import your "XP Mode" VM into that.

It is much faster and better supported.

Are you using 6.0 or 6.1? Are you using just ME or do you have the SE as well?

My FT View works great under the built in XP mode of my Win 7 Ultimate 64bit machine. I think the XP VM packaged with Win7 gets a bad rap. I have had 5.1,6.0, and 6.1 all working. Only issue I have ever had in the XP Mode is getting the activation software to work correctly. If I remember correctly, I think the key has always been to select "Disable Integration Features" before you do the install.

That being said, a while back I tried the VMWare Player that Brendan mentions and I do plan to start migrating everything over to that sometime soon. Mostly because the backup and restoration process is easier and because the VM is more portable to different hardware platforms. I even know a kid who is using a MAC to program Rockwell software withot any issues that I am aware of. It also has many other little nice bonus features like better screen resolution support, drag & drop to and from the VM, and from my experience seems to load faster. The only advantage I see thus far with the XP mode is the free XP License that comes with it

Brendan, Is is possible to convert my Win7 XP VM to a VMWare VM? That would save me a boat load of time.

I'm not Brendan, but yes you can Import an XPMode image into VMWare. But if it is broke in XPMode don't be surprised if importing does not fix it.
