I have an installation with PCs running Windows 2000, and WinCC.

The owner is worried about hardware failure, and has explored the idea of a new PC (Win 7, etc.), running VMWare Workstation, and then creating a Windows 2000 VM, and re-installing the WinCC.

In theory, all this is workable.

The question is would you deploy a 24/7 application like an HMI, in a VM image?

Sure. I have 30 plus installs of FT View SE and mE in VM's and a few Win CC Installs also.

About 99% percent of my MFG floor apps are running on type 1 hypervisors.
