Am wondering if anyone on this forum has used PLCs to incorporate FUZZY LOGIC. Just wanted to know the kind of work that was implemented and how did it go.

I know OMRON has hardware to do fuzzy. Has anyone used AB FLEX?

Can anyone from rockwell address why are they collaborating with www.protys.cz. The website claims that they are partners with Rockwell research? Wonder why?

ABFlex is intended to work with SLC500. I looked at a copy of it some years ago and it seemed very complete and capable. Certainly I would have used it, but I didn't have an application on hand at the time.

Also I do know that Rockwell have done some internal work towards a fuzzy logic engine for ControlLogix...BUT they don't seem to have any plans to commercialise it. Look on the RSLogix User forum a few months back. I asked this same question and got some form of an answer at the time.

I haven't pursued it since as I have been busy with another application since, but it did seem encouraging.

Unfortunately the US market seems very cool towards fuzzy logic, and until they see some real demand for it, Rockwell are unlikely to make the move towards incoporating fuzzy in any commercial form.

Omron

hi Phil:
Thanks for the reply. I was hoping people dont direct me to forums where this issue has already been addressed on this site. i looked at a couple of them that have been answered months ago. but seems like everytime you throw a thread here you always end up getting new insights, which is a good thing.

hi Jay:
I looked at what omron has to offer and thought it was very cool. I havent spoken to someone who has used it so far. (Hence this post), nevertheless, unless given a second thought..i thought it was really good that they had hardware to do fuzzy stuff.

Phil, coming back to what you said earlier, AB FLEX as far as i know was a marketing disaster. I dont know if it got to any lengths in the US market. I guess Rockwell ditched the s/w. I guess it is one of the few s/w you can find on their website for free.

It did amaze me then, when i found this company in the czech republic that was doing such stuff in collaboration with Rockwell. I guess one has to wait and watch.

In general, the opinion that i have received is that, not a lot of firms will wanna have fuzzy incorporated, esp when it comes to stuff like controls.

PS: I'm seriously thinking i will apply for a job to this company. I'm not sure of the working environment in Eastern europe though.

I have more information to help. Is full about, Brazil emphasize in develomemnt fuzzy by academics.

Write portuguese. If not undertandy write Ok!

PLC OMRON PS4 - Suport fuzzy, you have others for add?

I have, documents in english, in special one about aplied fuzzy common PLC, is from www.control.com PLCs arquive.

You have more links, it sofware very best!!! Changed web bookmark, you right!?

At present, to apply Fuzzy to the PLC. I utilize tools, where mount the diagram of control, adjusts the variavéis fuzzy, and adapts the parameters to the best result.

However, the PLC do not they possess capacity of inference in this breaks, necessario adapt the answer can be in the even felt, comportanmento but never exact upon planned. Did not I have opportunity of apply PLC with capacity fuzzy

Ashwin,

As dandrade has shown in his list of "fuzzy sites", you don't need to use any kind of proprietary "fuzzy modules" or any such things.

Fuzzy is math... nothing more, nothing less.

If your PLC can handle analog inputs and outputs, and you and your PLC can handle math, then you can do fuzzy.

The concept of Fuzzy-Logic and the methods associated with processing Fuzzy-Logic existed before fuzzy-modules were even thought of.

It's just numbers, man, just numbers.

When's the last time you heard an Omron guy use the word fuzzy?
When i drink way too much and try to read the screen, every thing is a little fuzzy...(burp)

When i am not exaclty sure of the details i can say i am a little fuzzy on that....

Allen Bradley has set up a shop in Prague, Czech republic in appr.
1991. They have done some fuzzy logic research in that facility
10 years ago. I remember that they came to the AB's automation fair in St.Louis. They had an SLC500 based fuzzy logic controlling a model helicopter.
I don't know if AB has incorporated fuzzy logic into any of their temp. controllers at this point but I remember them saying that they
did not see fuzzy logic being effective in temp controls??
I have been using RKC instrument's temp controllers in extrusion applications. These controllers use fuzzy logic and as far as I can tell they provide the best extrusion temp. control I have ever seen.
They may not be suitable for other applications since the fuzzy logic is a rule based system, but for extrusion applications they are the best I have seen.

Ashwin, as far as this goes:

PS: I'm seriously thinking i will apply for a job to this company. I'm not sure of the working environment in Eastern europe though.

Prague is a beautiful city with excellent infrastructure. Czech republic is not a third world country.
I would rather be there then in Columbia, MO.
Unfortunatelly their salaries are currently at about 50% of the
Western European salaries.
Besides you need to have a Phd to work in that Company.

It must be emphatically added that the local brands of beer are some of the best in the world. This in itself should be an incentive for a true controls professional.
:)

Hello Terry.
Really, it exists a sofware that supplies the numbers magical, derived from the graphic model. (Triangles) The fair, capable of defined the answers (fortresses-streak limited), when find I add here.
But the question, the objective that Ashwin and dandrade, certain others also is process defuzzitication will go any PLC.This it is not simple, can supply knowledge for support of this solution. Tool that myself geometry, but I think that the solution I think derive from trigonometric, still do not advance..
