Hello, dandrade;
The free software in the link of the original post is for programming of Emerson Dc drives, not for S7 PLC programming. To my knowledge, the is no free programming software for Siemens PLCs.
There are alternatives to Step5/Step7, and they are cheaper than Siemens products (but still not free): look at the following site for ATS S5/S7 Windows, one such product. You can find more on Google, probably.
