Hi,

We have an L61, which has lost power and battery failed, so its lost its programing.

I have the ACD file, I've formatted a compact flash to FAT16, so, if i just copy and paste the ACD file to it, then plug in the Compactflash to the L61, that should work?

or is it not that simple?

Cheers

Not that simple. The ADC file is the source file that the programming software loads in, then uses it to create an executable that is directly downloaded to the PLC. The executable can then be written to the Compactflash by the PLC.

I don't believe you can create an executable that can be transferred to the CompactFlash directly by the PC - you have to have the PLC do it.

Thanks for the quick reply.

So I have to upload the ACD file to the PLC first, then i can write it to the compactflash.

but to do this, I need RS Logix 5000 right?

sweet :)

last time anyone ever touched it was in 2010, so lookd like thats right.

Am i understanding this right?

if the controller looses power, and the battery fails, the card will keep the ACD file in there. Will the PLC automaticly take the ACD file from the compactflash when it is powered back up?

Thanks

Rob

I believe that you will need to manually save to the card. This is done in Logix 5000. The processor can't be in run mode when you do this too.

yeah, manually save the ACD file from the PLC to the card.
then when there is a power failure, and battery back up fails, its still sorted in the compactflash.
then when power is resumed, the PLC will take the file from the Compactflash?
or does it have to be manually loaded from the compactflash to the PLC?

cheers

When you perform a Nonvolatile Memory Store action in RSLogix 5000, a binary image file and an XML file are saved to the CompactFlash card.

As noted above, these aren't the *.ACD project file; the binary file is an image of the controller firmware, user program, and tag database (including the tag values).

The XML file includes the options that you've selected when you perform the Store action, which tells the controller what actions to take at powerup. You can choose to have the program loaded on every power cycle, or if corrupt memory is detected, or require an RSLogix 5000 user to initiate the load.

When the controller boots up, it checks for the presence of that XML file on the CF card and reads it. Depending on what the XML file says, the controller will perform those actions or continue attempting to start the program that's stored in battery-backed RAM.
