problem with communication ports

Hello All,

I've just started learning about PLC and about ladder programming in general.
I'm using a JZ R16 for testing and I've encountered an error
when trying to download my project.

"Error: Trying to open Port1"
"Cannot open communication port 1"

All the cables are connected and I've both restarted the program and my computer with no change.
I figure it's something in the settings I've missed but I don't know what.

Any help will be appreciated.

Go to Control Panel -> Device manager and Look for a folder called Ports (COM & LPT)
Make sure you have a Communications Port (COM1)

make sure to check that the pin out's for the cable are correct.

what are your com port settings?
