Good morning all,

I am having an issue with a Siemens rack. My communication card is the 153-2BA02-0XB0 [(ET200M /LINK) Profibus DP]. When I cycle power to the rack, I get a random card (rtd input card, D.O. card, A.I. card) that does not regain communication/power.. I have found myself chasing this through several cards numerous times and will pull the ET200M out and re-insert it. This sometimes works.. but it always seems like after 10 minutes of complete random combinations, I get it to work.. Since the last power loss, I installed a ups and have yet to lose power (we've been lucky, it's not that big of one)..

My question is being.. Is this an ET200 issue? This rack does not have a stationary back plane, but rather slide in, chassis extension modules..

The backplane, is that the little U-shaped connectors, or are they modules (for example 6ES7195-7HB00-0XA0) that build a physical rack, and can each hold 2 ET200M I/O modules ?
If it is the latter, it is an "active backplane".

Apart from that, it sounds like a nasty intermittent problem.
I would suspect either the IM153-2, or the backplane, not the I/O modules.
If possible, I would exchange both the IM153-2 and the complete backplane. If that gets you back to a stable system, I would throw out all the 'suspect' parts.

edit: Other things to investigate would be if you have good grounding. Not that I suspect it since the problem is within a rack, but worth checking out.
