Switching an Automate 30 Processor to Run Mode

Hello,

I'm working with a Reliance Automate 45C307 processor. After powering off the machine the run indicator is out. I have a backup copy of the APX version 3.0 software successfully running under Windows XP but I cannot go into online mode. Is there any way to test my serial connection to this PLC via a terminal app? I'm not sure if my problem is with the serial comms or some setting in the APX application. Or is there another way to get this PLC back into run mode I'm totally overlooking?

Thanks,
A.J.

APX software is the best way to switch it into run. Might try a Program called SlowDOS or DOSBox along with the APX software to get the computer to slow down and connect, just a thought. Might just have to have an old computer running Win98 SE or earlier with a real RS232 commport.
I would also try using a null-modem on the cable. Somewhere I have a cable I built 15+ years ago. I you cant get it to work, I will try to find it and trace the pin-outs for you.
You might want to browse this site for info:

And, here is a link to a manual from that site, see page 7-11 for some hints.

Thanks. I'll keep plugging away at the APX application then. I can hook this newer XP laptop to another brand controller and communicate with it via the USB to serial adaptor. I found the original laptop the backup was pulled from. I'm shipping that to location. Hopefully it'll still work. Attached is a picture. (y)

Now that things are back up and running what would cause the processors to be knocked out of run mode? The rack has two processors and they both where knocked off. I'm assuming on power up the CPU does a system check and isn't liking what it sees? Any way to dig deeper into this problem?

I had a unit many years ago that randomly dropped out of run. Had to replace the unit. I suspected that it was most likely a heat + age or time in service issue.
Maybe in your case it is a power issue and I would suggest you consider powering it with a good quality online UPS power supply to avoid power blips.
