Barcode Scanner to PLC

I need your help on this one

I have a Delta PLC (SA2 series) and I would like to connect an OPTICON NVL 1001 series directly to plc.

I have to use COM 1 port on my PLC (RS 232), witch has a socket for 8P Mini Din RS232 (male).

The OPTICON supports RS 232 communication.

Here are my question:

Can this (using the right programming) be done directly, or do i have to use a thrid party.(PC)

I don't have any cables, so u have to make one. have a male connector 8 PIN MINI DIP and a male connector DB9. (probably for connection to scanner, have not seen the scanner yet )

I have a problem wiriing the connectors. I am afraid to fry something(inproper GND connection

My connection would be:

OPTICON(DB9P male) PLC (8 pin mini DIN male)

3TDX-------------------> 5TDX
2RXD-------------------> 4RXD
5GND------------------> 8 GND

And what is the difference between DB9S and DB9P?

DB9S (S for Sockets (female))
DB9P (P for Pins (Male))
