I have PV550 2711-A5B5, I want download program to PV. I have USB to RS232 adapter. and a laptop. How can I do to download my program?

The PV550 Only has a RS232 Port.

I have to try use straight cable, connect my laptop vir USB-RS232 cable. but the have erro code is 2018.

What wrong?

Please help me! Thanks!

Do you mean 2711-B5A5?
If so your PV supports DH485 protocol. Your USB to serial adapter is not going to work with that protocol.
You need a 1747-UIC ( USB to DH485 converter). Or a memory module to upload/download your program.

The 1747-UIC or a memory card are the only ways to download to that PanelView terminal.

If the PanelView terminal has version 3.0 or higher firmware, you can use a conventional ATA Flash type memory card. I have used a PCMCIA Type II adapter with CompactFlash cards under 2 GB that are formatted for FAT16 successfully.

PanelView terminals with firmware versions 1.x or 2.x support only an obsolete type of flash memory card called "linear flash". I have not seen a linear flash drive for more than 15 years.

The protocol used by that PanelView Standard terminal is called "DH485". It will not run over any general-purpose USB/RS232 converter.

It will run over the 1747-UIC device, and it will run with some older computers with a built-in serial port and Windows XP SP2. There is also a patch which has been successful with Windows XP SP3.

The PV is spare part but customer want program download then send to them. So I olny have PV550. I have DH+cable, but no PLC 05/04. Can I use that cable? The cable type is 1784-KTX can download Plc program.
If can't, I need by UIC cable?

You can use a 1784-KTX card to connect to a DH-485 network that uses DH-485 wiring, but not to an RS-232 port that uses DH485 protocol.

To connect the 1784-KTX card to this PanelView terminal, you would need a 1784-CP14 cable, a 1747-AIC isolator, a 1761-NET-AIC isolator, a 1761-CBL-AS03 cable, and another straight-through serial cable.

You would also need to have the good luck for the PanelView terminal to be old enough to be supported by PanelBuilder32 software that runs on a computer that can also host the ISA-based 1784-KTX.

You would also need the expertise to set up the 1784-KTX card for DH485 protocol and configure appropriate drivers in RSLinx and PanelBuilder32 software.

Do you know what firmware revision this PanelView terminal has installed ? If so, you can determine if a common ATA Flash memory card can be used.

The 1747-UIC and PanelBuilder32 software running in Windows XP or Windows 7 is the most practical way to download to your PanelView terminal.

"Data Highway 485" is the protocol.

It can be run on a three-wire multi-drop RS-485 based network, or over a three-wire point-to-point RS-232 connection.

The 1784-KTX supports the RS-485 style signals.

Your PanelView terminal supports the RS-232 style signals.

The 1747-UIC adapter supports both RS-232 and RS-485.

In some cases the conversion between the two physical layers is straightforward. In some others it is complicated, difficult, or impossible.

before I think If I use general USB to R232 adapter. The protocol DH485 inside of Panelbuilder or RSlinks. Now I think, if I have a general RS485 to RS232 adapter, I can download my program, that's right or not?

You are correct that the DH485 protocol is inside RSLinx.

However, DH485 requires very specific flow control timing to perform its "token passing" function. This cannot be done by any general-purpose USB to Serial converter. It does not matter if the serial side of the USB converter is RS-232 or RS-485.

The 1747-UIC device performs the DH485 protocol conversion and flow control in an onboard microcontroller.
