Panelview Component 1000 to SLC 5/03

We have a system with a Panelview Component 1000 and an SLC 5/03 on the floor.

Does anyone know if the Component screen can be connected directly to the DH-485 port on the SLC 5/03. We have it on the RS232 port right now but our DH-485 programming cable (1747-pic) won't work with adapters.

We'd like to not have to swap the cables on the PLC to make program changes.

You haven't said which port you are currently using on the C1000, the RS-232 (9-pin) or the RS-422/485 (5-pin) port?

Also, how far apart are they?

A) You could use a 2711C-CBL-AB03, which is an RS-485 (5-pin) to RJ45 cable. This allows a direct point-to-point connection between the C1000's RS-485 (5-pin) port and the SLC 5/03's Ch1 DH-485 (RJ45) port, as long as the C1000 and SLC 5/03 are within 2 meters i.e. same enclosure. If you are not already using the C1000's RS-485 (5-pin) port, then you would have to reconfigure your project to use this port instead.

B) Alternatively, and as a replacement to the 1747-PIC, you could purchase a 1747-UIC, which is a USB to DH-485 interface converter. The 1747-UIC has both an RS-232 (9-pin) and RS-485 (RJ45) port (switch selectable) for connection to the controller. This would allow you to connect to either port of the SLC 5/03. The 1747-UIC does not come with any cables for making the connection to a controller. So, to connect to the Ch1 DH-485 (RJ45) port on the SLC 5/03, you would need to purchase a 1747-C13 (RJ45 to RJ45) cable, if you don't already have one. Some sellers offer both packaged together.

Going forward, I would recommend option B.

We went with the 1747-UIC replacement from http://www.plccable.com/

Had to install the driver manually and also, In Windows 7 we had to use the RS232 driver and select 1770-KF3/1747-KE as the device.
