anyone use a newer Okidata serial printer connected to a Contrologix PLC as an audit trail printer?

My customer bought 2 Okidata's to replace old Panasonic serial dot matrix printers from the '90s, so the printouts used to work before.

I have used older Okidata with the serial card that had DIP switches for configuration, but the newer printers have a configuration tool to set up the card. Using the utility, the selections for BAUD, Parity, Handshake, etc are all greyed out and Read Only.

Okidata tech support is of no help at the moment as they need in front of the printers, which I will be next week.

Anyone else use these printers via Rs232 serial?

I would guess that it is set to use one of the other ports rather than Serial, so the Serial settings aren't available. I have only used the 280 but I think that the Menu system is similar, go here and download the user guide, it tells you how to get in to the Menu and then change settings. Start page 69, it is a bit of a pain to do but you get the hang in the end, you will need a large supply of paper. The Manual doesn't always give all the settings, so I can't see how to change interface.

Thank you, but I have this manual .
The serial interface is not available using the Menu selections on the front of the printer.

At first blush, it sounds like the printer isn't seeing the card at all. Did you try reseating the card, by chance?

Thanks for that.

the customer supplied the 2 printers and serial cards on their own.
last time I was at their plant , I tried to configure these printers but had to bail. I am going back next week. Both printers have same issue
I have a feeling both cards are wrong ones, or not installed properly.

for sh@ts and giggles, I am going to remove a card and go online with the setup utility to see if the Serial port parameters are greyed out with card removed.

When I got the 280 it was on the cusp of the change to settings method, this was an old unit and I had to change the settings using DIP switches on the card. Don't that applies for the 320, but I did find that there are two versions of serial card depending on the revision of the printer:

Thank You for that.

I looked at the serial card last visit I was there and the board did have capacitors installed, so it is the OLD VERSION.

I will need to get the serial # to determine if the customer bought the wrong serial card.
