PLC Analog Input/Output Modules

Hey guys,
I'm with control Engineering background, working as a plc programmer.
Recetly i'm interested how an Analog I/O card works...

I wanna study about how the conversion is done from the signal to the raw value coming out of the address from peripheral input.

Any leads to the architecture or the operation charts for me to understand more about the conversion etc??...

Is there any different between the brands of the PLC that effects the conversion? eg. (between OMRON & SIEMENS)
