Panelview Plus 1000 and SLC 5/04

Hi,

I can not make to communicate a SLC 5/04 with a Panelview Plus 1000. In Local Mode everything seems OK, but in Target ... I don't realize what I am doing wrong.
Has anybody experience with that ?

How are the PV+ and the SLC physically connected together ?

Local and Target are the two tabs of the RSLinx Enterprise network configuration. The Target is what is used by the PV+ or by the Test Run time on your PC.

If you are using RS232, the most common problems are the cable (PV+ has pins 2 and 3 reversed compare to your PC) and the COM port number, because the serial port on the PV+ is always COM1 but many people use USB converters that enumerate as COM3 or higher.

I am able to comunicate with the panelview plus by ethernet and RS 232 with a Keyspan converter. Also I can go online with the SLC 5/04 by RS 232 but after downloading the application into the panelview plus when I conect the RS 232 cable between SLC and panelview they do not talk. ???

A typical PC serial port (including a USB/RS232 converter) and the SLC-5/04 serial port are all "Data Terminal Equipment" (DTE) type serial ports.

When you connect a DTE port to another DTE port, you need a "null modem" cable that swaps the Tx and Rx pins.

The PanelView Plus has a "Data Communication Equipment" (DCE) type port.

When you connect a DTE port to a DCE port, you need a "straight through" serial cable.

The most common way to handle this when you are using A-B processors and PanelViews is to use a "null modem adapter".

The alternative is to have two different cables: one to connect your PC to the SLC-5/04 serial port, and anther to connect the PanelView Plus to the SLC-5/04 serial port.

Getting the cable correct is step #1. Getting the COM port correct is step #2.
