Hi Guys,

I am new to plc's and hmi screens and did bring myself for a challenge! ;)

The past few days I kept looking on the internet to find a suitable solution for my new project climate control and I did hit a wall of too much information.

I would like to buy a plc and hmi screen 12 or 15inch or a combo set with stunning graphics under need 1000 US dollar.
The plc needs to have Ethernet (maybe profinet) and minimum 2x DI, 8x DO, 4x AI, 12x AO and 18 RTD temperature sensors input 1000Ohm.

Can you guys please help me in to the right direction?

- Combo set or not?
- HMI with stunning graphics?
- Easy simple software?
- different brands as the RTD inputs are getting a problem.

Thank you very much in advance!!!!

Kind regards,

Tony

Wow thats a tall order for $1000.00.

I would like a Ferrari, a Gulf Stream 6, and 2 Leggy Blondes as personal assistants for $100,000.00 (But I probably will not find that either)

You may have a better shot getting closer to what you are wishing for though.

Check out UNITRONICS, you wont get what you are looking for at the price you requested but it will be cheaper than most.

Another route you may want to look at is CLICK PLC by Automation Direct and see if you could use ADVANCED HMI for your Display.
CLICK PLC is affordable and ADVANCED HMI is Open Source. (FREE)

You can also search this forum for Advanced HMI and view a long running thread about it.

Good Luck

Hey,

Thank you for the fast reply! I did see unitonics and did download there unistream software packet but it doesn't have the graphics. I will have a look at advanced hmi! It looks cool on YouTube.

I will keep this updated with what I did found as solution!

Maybe mini plc's and different temperature sensors. And a separate touch screen panel.

Regards,

Tony

You could make the "stunning graphics" in a webserver HMI, if the PLC has an onboard webserver.
In that way you can display your stunning graphics on any device that can reach the webserver, for example any PC, laptop, smartphone or tablet.
Also, the webserver HMI would be "free" as long as you don't count the time needed to program it. Programming the webbased HMI wont be "simple and easy".

But for that many AI, AO and RTDs, I think that you may find it difficult to meet your 1000 USD limit.
Many low-end PLCs do not support so many analog channels.
A Siemens S7-1200 with the CPU 1217 do support so many channels, and do have an onboard webserver, but the CPU alone costs approx 900 USD.

Your price goal is a problem, unless you plan on buying 1,000s per year.

Try looking at Red Lion and Pro-face. You will need to talk with a local distributor about pricing and solutions. Red Lion has the display size, the Pro-face is a 4" or 6".

The top PLC manufacturers (Siemens, Rockwell Automation, Mitsubishi & Omron) do not offer what you are asking for.
The top companies that do offer all in ones (Unitronics, Horner APG) may not give you your fancy graphics and large display size.

HMI/PLC combo (with I/O) is usually for cost reasons; or it's for space which is a different cost. So you won't find many options in the 12" or 15" size.

If you are stuck on the cost, I'm sure you will have to look for separate HMI and PLC options. Just watch out for your time and support costs. You don't want to waste all your price savings on extra engineering & support hours.

Hi,

Beijer Electronics has a range of HMIs with integrated controller. Sizes spanning from 4" to 15":
http://www.beijerelectronics.com/web/web_en_be_com.nsf/AllDocuments/086139A96AC72DF9C1257DC7002DB4CC

The controller is programmed with Codesys and the HMI application is programmed with iX Developer. Demo versions can be downloaded from:

As others already stated I think the price will be a problem...

It will be difficult if not impossible to find a typical plc with so many RTD inputs at a such low price.
You need to look for specialized HVAC controllers.
I would suggest looking at Carel hvac Pco controllers or at their new c.Pco line.

They also have a great line of touch displays with some very powerful features for creating stunning UI.
We have done amazing job using JavaScript which is supported by their development software.

Also take a look a Dixell iPro HVAC programmable controllers.

UniStream actually does come with a 15.6" screen.

Not sure what you mean by 'doesn't have the graphics" but here is an example of a nice HMI program. BTW--the software's HMI Display Editor is basically identical to the WebServer Page editor.

Unitronics Vision costs less, and comes in 12.10" and 10.40".
