Try:
7 -> Data +(B)
14 -> Data -(A)
5 -> gnd

you may need to place a 150 ohm resistor (for terminating/biasing) across terminals 7 and 14.

You can not connect a standard computer RS232 serial port directly to a TSX17 PLC. The PLC programming port is 2-wire RS485.

You will need to get an RS232 to RS485 convertor. Each convertor manufacturer has their own configuration, so I can not provide a wiring diagram (picture).

Robust Data Com is one convertor manufacter. They have some good application notes in their support area.
