S7-300 communication

Hi,

this morning i posted a message, and after that, i did some extra research.

Now i have a MPI-RS232 cable, to connect the S7-300 with my PC.
Now a few more questions:

Do i need a (profi-bus) card?
Or can i just use some DLL's to read out some adressess from the S7-300?

please, let me know, so i can go further ;)
