I am putting this out there so that hopefully it can benefit another engineer at some point in the future. I have been fighting this non-communication thing between the JD1A1 port and the interface module forever. Today I was experimenting with another issue. I downloaded the backup software and used the BACKUP instruction in FAPT 2. The program goes to F-ROM when you do this. Once this happened the JD1A1 port established communication.
Hope this helps, there is NO place in the Fanuc manuals where this is documented.
