Hello,
I am trying to go online with a GE 90-30. I am using Port 1, RS 232. Processor is a xxx351.
Proficy 6.0 says it can not go online, but it does not tell me why.
I checked the settings in the backup copy, and verified that they were the same as the settings on the PC. Cord is a known good one.

LabView is also on this machine; another engineer things this may be the culprit? I am running back out there now. All ideas are welcome.

I think I recall a conflict on my own PC with national instruments OPC servers and RS linx (which isn't GE but a similar conflict may be occurring to you). Labview itself shouldn't hog a com port, unless you had a VI running that was using it.

I would go into your computer management, services, and close any NI/LV services that may be running, and then try to connect to GE again.

Does the "P1" LED on the CPU module flash when you're trying to connect? A flashing LED indicates traffic on the port. A brief flash every second or so indicates that Proficy is trying to connect but gets no response from the PLC. That could be due to a port setup mismatch or it could be that the port is disabled in hardware configuration.

No flashing at all would indicate a bad cable or that the PC running Proficy is not even trying to communicate. If its not trying, the most likely reasons are that the COM port you specified is not available because some other application is using it, or you specified the wrong COM port for the Proficy target. If you're using a USB/serial converter, check what COM port it gets installed as and make sure that the Proficy target is set for the same port.

Thank You gentlemen,
It was a case of:
RsLinx wanting the com port,
National Instruments wanting the com port,
Proficiy wanting the com port

All at the same time.
Shut down NI and Linx and all is well.

Joe try setting them all to a manual start and not letting RSLinx run as 'a service' once I install any new software I will make sure its a manual start... I hate waiting and having everything running is just killing the CPU speed of your PC, note: I have old slow PC's anyway so I need all the help I can get :)
