Hello all,
A customer is replacing some equipment, and in this process a server utilising TCP/IP protocol will need to communicate with an existing 1956-L61 controller via ascii messaging.
I have used the Eweb module for this in the past, but it was a bit of a pain.
Has anyone used the Prosoft generic ascii/Ethernet interface module, or know of another ascii module that will do the task easily and efficiently?

TIA

I maybe misunderstanding some aspect of your setup here, but when you say ascii I'm thinking of serial communication. If so, then yes, there are a lot of serial ascii to ethernet module out there. I have used the Prosoft ascii (serial) to E/IP module and it's not too bad. Truth be told, they are all a bit of pain to setup but ProSoft got excellent phone support if you get stuck.

Prosoft is my go-to solution because I know their configuration and operation method very well, but the easiest-to-use product for this sort of application is the Real Time Automation 490 series gateways.

They make it very easy to set up a tag in the ControlLogix, do some configuration via a Web browser, and get data flowing fast.

Thanks for the replies - do these products allow for 2 way ascii communications? i.e. sending a string out as well as receiving one in?

The Prosoft is probably what I'll go for as it's readily available over here in the UK :)
