I work for a water treatment plant manufacturer. We have a system that's going to be installed in Argentina. The customer wants the ability to get updates of system status. The only option is using a satellite modem to periodically connect and transmit.

I have done multiple cell phone modem configurations. Does anyone have a preferred model or brand for satellite modems?

if you only need a "system status", check out the isatdatapro. it has onboard digital inputs, and would be much cheaper per month.

Also, I have used the Hughes BGAN modem quite a few times. If this is going to be a remote installation where someone cant easily reboot it, you better run power thru a digital output on your plc and reboot it at least a couple of times a day. My experience with them has been that they lock up and the only way to get them back online is to reboot them. if you program your plc to reboot it every 6 hours, you can limit any downtime.
