Hello all. I would appreciate your help in troubleshooting an AB multi-drop DH485 network.
Our company was retained to modify existing machinery. The network issue became apparent when we attempted to connect our PC into an existing PLC/HMI DH485
network by adding a 1761-NET-AIC Ser. B. One machine was successfully connected; two were not able to be connected or appear in RSLinx.

Machine 1 (worked):
SLC 5/04 1747-L541 Ser. B FRN 3 OS 401; Chan. 0 configured for DH485, 19200, Node 1. 1761-CBL-PM02 connecting from SLC to AIC+ Mini-DIN RS232 port
PV550 2711-B5A5 FRN 4.10; 19200, Node 2. Serial cable connecting from PV to AIC+ DE9 RS232 port
Laptop running RSLinx 2.57, using 1747-UIC; 1761-CBL-AS03 connecting from UIC to AIC+ RS485 port; AB_UIC driver, Node 0
AIC+ externally powered

PC was able to go online with SLC and download to PV.

Machine 2 (failed):
SLC 5/04 1747-L541 Ser. B FRN 3 OS 401; Chan. 0 configured for DH485, 19200, Node 1. 1761-CBL-PM02 connecting from SLC to AIC+ Mini-DIN RS232 port
PV550 2711-B5A5 FRN 2.00; 19200, Node 2. Serial cable connecting from PV to AIC+ DE9 RS232 port
Laptop running RSLinx 2.57, using 1747-UIC; 1761-CBL-AS03 connecting from UIC to AIC+ RS485 port; AB_UIC driver, Node 0
AIC+ externally powered

No nodes found active in RSLinx.

Machine 3 (failed):
SLC 5/04 1747-L541 Ser. B FRN 3 OS 401; Chan. 0 configured for DH485, 19200, Node 1. 1761-CBL-PM02 connecting from SLC to AIC+ Mini-DIN RS232 port
PV550 2711-B5A9 FRN 3.10; 19200, Node 2.

Is the PV firmware version to blame here? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Best regards,
gnieport

EDIT: I think I understand better after a re-read.

The PV firmware should not affect DH485 functionality as far as I know, but it certainly can affect the PB32 application. In PB32 you can choose the older firmware versions for most hardware, and then do a Save As .pva (or do a Application...Validate All...) to ensure that the application is compatible with the older firmware.

But if RSLinx can't see all the nodes once connected, then you haven't even got that far yet. You're using the latest version, so just a WAG, but maybe the eds files for the antique panelviews have been left out? Are you seeing yellow question marks or anything?

Also, another WAG, but we've had trouble with DH485 drivers "not liking it" when we moved a laptop from one machine to another...we ended up deleting the driver and creating it again in order to get the RSWho to "let go" of some nodes it was displaying incorrectly. Blowing away the harmony files is another suggestion that can't hurt.

I would like to expand on the original machine setup. The machines are isolated; the PV is connected directly to the SLC serial port with an AB serial cable. My hope was to insert the AIC+ in the middle to allow a PC connection for commissioning.

I am able to connect the UIC individually to each device without issue.

Thank you for the suggestion about the driver and harmony files. We will be making another return trip to the client soon, and those changes will be first on my list.
