Simple Question on GE Proficy Machine Ed 6.5

In the Variable List > New Variable, I wish to create a variable of UDT type that I previously defined but the options for function Block, UDT, and UDFB are ghosted. Obviously I missing something here (probably simple) but haven't been able to find a solution. Anyone? Thanks in advance!

Found the answer: if multiple targets are defined in the Navigator, the PLC (not the HMI) has to be set as the active target.
