I have a new customer that wants me to backup the program on his Cutler Hammer D-50.

I think I have access to the software, but I'm having problem with availability for the cable and converter, which I am told is obsolete.

The part numbers I have is D50ZBL10 for the cable and D50CPM485 for the 232 to 485 converter.

Is it feasible to build either of these items?
Is this part of the Toshiba line that CH rebranded?

Thanks in advance - OFG Mark

I think that's so. Search the forum for "Cutler Hammer", and I think you'll find more about it. I remember seeing this topic some time ago.

here is the pin out of the cable needed:

db9male db9female
pin2 to pin3
pin3 to pin2
pin5 to pin5
pin4,7 pin4,8
make this cable and use with a rs232 to rs485 converter

Thanks - this is what I needed.

I have downloaded the manuals and I am in process of making the cable.

You guys are great!!!

Quick update -

The cable required for communicating to the D50 is actually a straight through. The factory cable pin 6 and 4 tied together thru a diode, but I was able use a DB9 extension cable and it worked fine with the factory CH 485 converter.

If anybody has any questions on this, let me know.

Mark, what is the software and the cable that you use to communicate with the D50-Series?

Thanks,
Ttv
The software is WinGPC. PM me an email address if you need help finding it.
Here is a link to some manuals and application notes.. The first link is for the D300 which is the same family as the D50. See Chapter 8 for comm info. The second one has some pin-out info. The third link is for the D50 users manual.
I didn't see the cable diagram but I have a cable that I could look at to make a diagram if you dont find one.

Do I need to buy both the cable and converter? Or can I just get the converter and use a regular RS232 cable or do I need to make a special one.

Sorry if this is a noob question, but I don't know anything about these cables needed to communicate. I am just trying to upload the programs from some D50 plcs at work to back them up.

Apparently we used to have the cable long ago, before I started working here, but no one can find it now.

Again, here is a link to the D50 manual that I indicated in an earlier post (#8). See page 19 near the bottom of the page.

C & P from page 19:
The RS485 Communication Port supports an RS485 connection for programming, configuring, and
monitoring the PLC. For communication with most RS232 peripherals, such as a personal computer
an RS232/485 converter must be used.
Someone may know a way to get around using the adapter with a hand-made patch cable. I just don't know how.

Here's a link to a possible supplier for both parts. They are the 7th and 8th items down the page. I found this with Google:
