This is my first posting:

I have Problems with Uploading a Panel View 550 connected to an SLC 5/03
Allen Bradley SLC 5/03 1747-L532 PLC
Connected over DH485 Channel 1 using C10 cable
to a Panel View 550 Cat 2711-K5A2 Ser C, Rev A & FRN 1.07 (no RS232 port)
RS Linx Version 2.54
RS Logix 500 Pro Version 8.10
Panel Builder 32 Version 3.82.01

It seem that the Panel View 550 Cat 2711-K5A2 Ser C, Rev A & FRN 1.07 will not recognise the memory card slot.

I have managed to upload the SLC program using the DH485 port on the Panel View 550 using a 1747-PIC cable (PIC driver).
However, I cannot upload the Panel View 550 program using Panel Builder 32 and the 1747-PIC cable.
The uploading gets to 99% of the way then displays the following error code;
Error Code 4008 Terminal Reported Bad Data Count

How can I get round this problem and upload from the Panel View 550?

Can anyone help?

Those very old units require a special memory card.

See especially post #6 here:

As for using DH485, since you did attain connectivity, I might suggest using an older version of Panelbuilder32, but I am not 100% sure it will make a difference...Another thing that may help is to disconnect the SLC from the DH485 network while uploading if you have not tried this already.

Welcome to the forum, by the way!

When I inserted the memory card I have into the Panel View 550 I got the following message;
memory card is not formatted
The memory card I have is the canon compact flash FC-16M
Could you clarify what memory card I should buy?

When I disconnected the SLC then the Panel View could not be seen via RS Linx

Seems like I remember you need a separate power supply for the Panelview when disconnected from the SLC and using a 1747-PIC. I might be wrong or just plain confused.

Your memory card may still work. Try plugging it into the PV and navigating to the memory card menu option. There is a button there to format it. If that cannot be done then try formatting it to FAT on your computer (not FAT32).

Thanks for your help. I'll try and format it to FAT not FAT32 to see if that soves the problem.

One more question. I'm using the same memory card to back up a number of Panel View HMI on site. These include Panel View 400+, 550, 900 & 1000. The memory card works for most of the HMI's its only a few it does not work. If I formatted the memory card to FAT and not FAT32 will that card work for all the HMI's or will I have to buy two memory cards?

The Memory Card I'm using is already formatted to FAT so it isn't a formatting issue.

I have also read in the Panel Builder Help file and AB PanelView Standard Operator Terminals manual
& it reads that only Panalview Terminals with firmware 3,0 or higher support Memory Cards.
PanelView terminals running firmware 3.0 (or later) and computers
with an ATA card drive support the following cards.
• 4M flash ATA card (Cat. No. 2711-NM24)(1)
• 8M flash ATA card (Cat. No. 2711-NM28)(1)
• 16M flash ATA card (Cat. No. 2711-NM216)(1)
• 64M flash ATA card (Cat. No. 2711-NM232)

The PanelView 550 I have is detailed below;

RS Logix 500 Pro Version 8.10
Panel Builder 32 Version 3.82.01

I can upload via Panel Builder 32 up to 99%.
At 99% I get the Error Code 4008: Terminal Reported Bad Data Count.
Can I somehow use Panel Builder 32 but not verify the program?

When I looked at Panel Builder Help it had this solution

Error Code 4008 - missing remote acknowledge tag

Problem - Remote (Ack) Handshake Tag is defined without a Remote Act Tag.

Solution - On the Alarm Triggers Tab of the Alarm Setup Dialog, define a Remote (Ack) Handshake Tag.

How do I implement this? I am new to RS Logix 500 & Panel Builder 32.
How can I do the above if I can't upload the program?

For future reference, the bad count error does appear to occur when communications with the PLC are active.

This happened on a 2711-K5A2 with DH485 communications. When the PLC was disconnected, the upload was ok using a 1784-PCMK/B card. Also has on a previous terminal (on DH+ I think) and remember reverting to the serial port (only good if RS232 is fitted).
