Modicon M258 How Do I upload Prog with USB Memory Stick?

Hi*

I have a an Modicon M258 PLC and need to interrogate the program in order to find*what is wrong with the plant! How do I upload? I understand this can be done*with a memory stick. If so , will any new clean/empty stick be acceptable and is *size critical. I also have the SOMachine s/w but do not know the IP address.*

I am quite nervous regarding this task as no-one has a copy of the program and the controller is used 24/7. I've phoned Schneider but "all*engineers busy"

Can any one out there *help

I've only used the 221 series with soMachine Basic but the principle should be the same...

You would connect using a USB cable not a USB memory stick. Should be a USB mini connector on the left side under a little plastic flap.

Plug in there and connect using SoMachine. Since you don't have an offline copy you'll only have the option to transfer from controller to PC. Do that and save a copy before doing anything else!

Thanks for your quick response Saffa, I've used the mini usb cable and the PLC is recognised and comes up with the plc type and a few other details - but not the IP address or any other comms details. I've spoken to Schneider (who were quite helpful) and they think that the unit may be password protected and were going to find out more info for me, so I await their reply. They also informed me that a USB stick upload is possible under certain criteria conditions.

Make sure if, when the download was done, someone did a backup copy inside de M258, otherwise, isn´t possible to proceed the upload. (I never seen yet someone that remember to do!)

Also, to findout an IP address, use the WireShark software (if you don´t know, it´s free!) and see all IPs numbers running at the network. You can discovery easily the IP number of some equipment!

Thanks for the info ferjrodrigues, I will download the s/w you suggest! I'm back on the project in a couple of days and I'll try to get into the plc again.
