For some reason I can't get the Kinetix 350 modules to show up in RSL5K V20. I've downloaded and installed the .EDS files, verified that they are the 350 drives I want, but they seem to never get registered in the module list.

I've read: http://www.plctalk.net/qanda/archive/index.php/t-72854.html

Does anyone have the AOP install files for the Kinetix 350 drives? I'm looking to try this but AB only seems to have the EDS files available now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Kinetix 350 drives need an AOP; they are definitely not EDS-derived module profiles.

I start at the RA Software Downloads website, then log in, then use Control-F to search for "2097 Kinetix Drives".

The search for the Bulletin Number 2097 instead of the model name "Kinetix 350" is probably where the search is not finding what you need.

I found the 2097 AOP at RA, downloaded it, completed the installation, but this seemed to only include drives that we could already see and the list of modules it was installing was empty. Reading the bulletin it seems to only include standard Kinetix 300 drives (note 350 drives have -LM extensions e.g. 2097-V34PR5-LM):

Minimum Module / Minimum RSLogix 5000
Catalog Number / Series Firmware Revision Software Revision
2097-V31PR0/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V31PR2/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V32PR0/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V32PR2/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V32PR4/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V32PR5/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V33PR1/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V33PR3/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V33PR5/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V33PR6/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V34PR3/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V34PR5/A 1.0 V17.00
2097-V34PR6/A 1.0 V17.00

I searched for another AOP for the Kinetix 350 drives but couldn't find it. I feel like I'm missing something obvious but just can't seem to figure this out?

1756-L63 V20.01

Kinetix 350 spec sheets says that 1756-L6x with >V17.01 should work.

What ethernet module are you using?

1756-ENBT or 1756-EN2T?

To use CIP motion you need to use one of the following:
1756-EN2T
1756-EN2TR
1756-EN3TR

There may be others but the 1756-ENET and 1756-ENBT CANNOT control CIP motion servo drives.

OK. I was just checking that you weren't using a CompactLogix without the -M designation.

I created a new program with our PLC and an EN2T and the 2097-xxxxx-LM modules were all there. Thanks so much! I was about ready to take the whole thing outside and ....

Thanks again!

I'm assuming the Stratix 5700 supports CIP motion servo drives?

That would depend on which switch you buy. If you buy a Stratix 5700 with Life Firmware then it will not work very well with CIP motion, you need a version with the Full Firmware. Personally I use the 1783-BMS10CGN, which is a 10port switch with NAT capabilities. It works well with CIP motion, however depending on the number of servos you have you may be able to get away with an Unmanaged switch such as a Stratix 2000.

Regards
Ian

Would Stratix 8000 switch work well? For example: 1783-MS10T?

I looked it up with the compare tool at AB and it doesn't show any information for CIP motion. Just blank squares in the table.

I also looked up the 8000 Stratix information similar to the 5700 and it doesn't show NAT, Lite/Full firmware, or CIP compatibility. I did read through it and it does say that it has "precise timing" CIP that makes it sound good.

What do you guys think? I'm just trying to avoid buying more AB equipment that is incompatible with simple 1-axis motion so I can keep my job!

If your using 1 axis, then you dont really need a managed switch. An unmanaged switch such as the stratix 2000 would be sufficient.

I would not recommend that you buy a Stratix 8000, it is old technology compared to the Stratix 5700. I would recommend that you either use a stratix 2000, or a Stratix 5700 with Full Firmware such as the 1783-BMS06TA.
