Anyone doing out of country trips right now?

My company just took a job that will be in Mexico. I'm not exactly thrilled about traveling there anytime soon. In fact, I think the border is closed but they may permit 'essential workers'.

I imagine they would want me to spend 14 quarantine days in a hotel room or some other BS if/when I get there.

If anyone is traveling right now, I'd love some insight.

Thanks!

I don't know. Our company just started international travel again. All I can say is as far as Mexico, my opinion would be the virus is the least of your concerns down there. I've heard too many folks say it isn't safe. Good luck. I won't go there at all. I've turned down good job offers because travel to Mexico would be a condition of employment.

Exactly my thoughts. I've talked to a guy who was shot down there.

Going to Mexico sucks in the first place - but I can't believe they would even consider it in these times.

I'd try to find a local integrator/programmer to help, instead of you travelling.
In addition to that, I assume that you'll be providing some sort of VPN network for remote access. That gives less reasons for you to be there.

I have a customer that went to Mexico a week after they attacked a police convoy, shot 13 police and kidnapped the businessman they were escorting.

He didn't see that on the news so as soon as he got there he hired a police convoy to get him to the next town.

I complimented him on the size of his solid-brass jewels when he got back.

If I have to go there I will rent a 1967 Volkswagen that hasn't been washed in recent history and at least one headlight is smashed.

I have been there many times to work and never had any issue
It really depends on where you go in Mexico. The majority are safe, especially past the border towns. People are super friendly, and will try to help you.

It really depends on where you go..
A taxi driver in Mexico once told me... "You live near LA right?....Do you go to Watts or back streets of Compton at night?"

Check out..."Tangerine Travels" on YouTube. It is about a couple who stay all over Mexico.

Waiting for the borders to open to finish a project in Red Deer, Alberta.

A friend of mine was to have his dual citizenship completed this past early April. They simply said check back next year...

I had a job in France a few weeks ago, we could get a KLM flight from Denmark to France via Amsterdam, it was safe travel, I spoke to 6 people in total on this trip, including the car rental office in Paris.

Our biggest concern was finding a hotel that was open, the one we found had a good system, you stay one week in a room with no service, then you change to a new clean room and they leave the other room untouched for 72 hours before cleaning the room.

Another issue is food, no restaurants are open, so it needs a little planing :)

This is Amsterdam Airport terminal Friday afternoon :)

Don't know about the covid situation, personally if it were me i would not go right now. The last thing i want is to be stuck there with covid AND travelers stomach/bug. Which i get every other time i go.
We always end up getting at least 2 jobs in mexico a year, which means i normally have to go twice a year.
It does really depend on the area. Most places we have gone have been south of the monterrey "line", which to me seems a little more relaxed.
I never want to go, but we always travel down there with 1 other person, gives us a little more comfort. I went once by myself and will not do that again.

Edit. Also they now have direct flights from DTW to some places there, which is awesome!

Traveled from the UK to Belgium last Tuesday, and am here till Friday. Got checked at the Belgium border as they aren't allowing tourists in yet, but we had paperwork from the company we were working for deeming us essential to their conveyor construction project.

I came on the understanding that I could get back before the UK introduce their quarantine period on the 8th June.

I would think this is a big contrast to what it would of been in normal conditions

Did you have to quarantine when you got there? same to you Jonnie_R and everyone else are you having to quarantine?

No quarantine for me coming to Belgium, I went through the Eurotunnel and drove through France. There would be going back to the UK if I returned after after June 8th as the UK government are imposing 14 day quarantine.

I have done many projects there. Mexico is my favorite place to go. People are extremely friendly, food and drinks are excellent and hotels are nice. I usually fly to San Antonio Taxes, rent a car there and cross the Eagle Pass border to Piedras Negras.

You are the first person I have ever heard that from, I could not wait to get out of there and this was in the 90's and I have never been back.

About 10 years ago my mother in law was on a mission trip with the church and they were held up at gunpoint on the way down, there was about 5 cars/trucks that drove down together to work on a church, they were about 8 hrs below the border they were ran off the road and stopped by 3 trucks with AR's... then on the way back she was pulled over by a cop and he said she did not pay for the gas at the last gas station they stopped at and she had to pay him 100 bucks and he would let her go so she paid him.

I dont think we are a lot better off up here but its still like the wild wild west down there.

I think that it is exactly like US. All depends where you are. And honestly because of lock-down I am missing traveling in general. BTW I came back from China right before this whole mess started there.
