I am trying to get a micro850 to communicate to a panelview C400 HMI over ethernet. Only those two components. I keep getting error codes 2 and 10 about "communication tag 0". I created a very simple two bottom HMI program with both the buttons and the global variables configured as read/write.
Should I:

Enable DHCP protocol on both or one and if one which one?

Do they both need static IP addresses?
Should I have a gateway address also for one or both?

In Connected Components in the HMI section where I enter the
IP address of the PLC-1, in the communications tab does the number that automatically populates the port section belong to the ethernet port of the HMI? Or do I have to find a specific port#? the section contains a port tab and a path tab.

Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thanks
