Good Evening ,

We have a few AB PLC-5 PLC's left . I took notice that we do not have and PCMCIA slots in our laptops . Do they make any PCMCIA to USB adaptors ?

We plan on replacing them this year , but in the mean time I would like to be on the safe side .

Thanks so much in advance .

You can take a shot with the Duel Systems adapter, or try to find something else. No USB adapter has ever been successfully tested or supported by Rockwell.

The 1784-U2DHP is the modern substitute, or a network gateway device.

If they are all on DH+ your best to get a 4 slot Logix rack and put in a EN2T and a DHRIO and use it as a gateway. You don't need a Logix PLC to use it as a gateway.

JaxGTO's suggestion also works for when an old HMI computer is replaced with one that the DH+ card can not be installed in. The new computer was setup on Ethernet with the exact rack he lists.

Does the PLC5 have a serial port? If so, could use a CP-10 cable with any USB to serial converter. Only have one PLC5 I mess with, and that's how I tap into it.

I see Mark sells the CP-10 for around 22 bucks, and am quite sure he has a USB to Serial...

The ones I have are in my truck, and the windchill right now is about 25 below, so, in an effort to stay a bit warmer on my end, I suggest a google on your end. Well, if it has a serial port...

TIP: if the PLC-5 has a serial port - then the serial port will have 25 pins - NOT 9 pins ...

all of the nine pin ports on a PLC-5 will be strictly/only for a Data Highway Plus connection ... specifically, the nine pin ports can NOT be used as a serial port ...

I dont miss that part of Michigan... I told my wife would could move up there for the 15 days of nice weather but not sure if its worth it :)

Cydog, if you let us know the full part numbers we could give you more options, we also sell the U2DHP but they are not cheap, ever the aftermarket we sell

Good Morning ,

Thanks so much for the advice and information. I do have 2 - Dell Latitudes D 810's with Windows XP on them with PCMCIA slots in them and RS Logix 5 software that I found . I'm going to go ahead and buy 2) 1784-PCMK and another 1784-PCM6/B ( If they are still available ) . If they are no longer available from Rockwell , where would the best place to find them ? When you install them , are they difficult to setup on your laptop. I guess you use RS Linx ?

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks . That looks reasonable . Did you guys ever deal with PLC Hardware ?
They have 3 in stock for $399.00 each .
